Putting the Gospel into Action – Volunteer with the St Vincent de Paul Society

Faith is more than something we profess on a Sunday – it is something we are called to live every day.

The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) is a Catholic charity rooted firmly in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the message of the Gospels. Its mission is simple: to put Christian love into action by reaching out to those experiencing poverty, loneliness and hardship.

Inspired by Christ’s call to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34), the SVP offers a wonderful opportunity to turn our faith into practical acts of kindness and compassion.

Making a Real Difference in Our Community

What makes the SVP particularly special is that it is a charity where you can see the Gospel in action and witness the difference your kindness makes right here in our local community.

Across Leeds, including Beeston, Holbeck and the surrounding areas, people face very real challenges – from struggling to put food on the table to coping with loneliness, financial difficulties and social isolation.

Through the work of local volunteers and St Vincent’s Centre in Leeds, the SVP provides practical help, food support, advice, friendship and a welcoming community for those who need it most.

This is not simply about donating money to a distant cause. It is about helping our neighbours, meeting people face to face, building friendships and seeing firsthand how even the smallest act of kindness can change someone’s day – or even their life.

It is the Gospel made visible in our own streets and neighbourhoods.

Could You Give a Little of Your Time?

The SVP is always looking for compassionate people willing to make a difference. Whether helping with food support, community activities, charity shops or simply offering friendship to someone who is lonely, there are many ways to get involved.

You don’t need any special qualifications, just a willingness to serve others and put your faith into action.

As members of the Parish of St Maximilian Kolbe, we are called to follow Christ’s example by caring for the most vulnerable in our society.

By volunteering with the SVP, we have the opportunity to live those words, serve Christ through our neighbours and make a lasting difference in the community around us.

Your time, your kindness and your faith could make all the difference.
